Description

This update adds encoder hardware support for FTC participants using the LabVIEW FTC Toolkit or LEGO MINDSTORMS software.

The included encoder functions are:

  • Move a Fixed Distance
  • Rotate to a Position
  • Move at Constant Speed
  • Reset Encoders
  • Read Encoders
The LabVIEW FTC Toolkit update includes a new version of the FTC Move Motors VI and a subpalette with five new VIs for use exclusively with the encoder hardware. The LEGO MINDSTORMS update includes a new version of the FTC Motors block with enabled encoder functionality. These updates now also include a fix for a bug that could prevent your robot from braking properly.

  6. Click "Yes" on the popup dialog asking if you want to copy the contents of the new FTC Toolkit folder over the old FTC Toolkit folder.
  7. Run LabVIEW 8.5.1. Open a blank VI and show the block diagram.
  8. In the Functions palette, navigate to the FTC Toolkit palette. It should now contain a subpalette labeled "FTC Motor Encoder Functions". The subpalette should contain the five VIs needed to run with encoders.
LEGO MINDSTORMS:

Click the Browse button and browse to the FTC Motors folder you extracted from lego_ms_ftc_motors_nov1708.zip Select the FTC Motors folder, then click 'OK'. "FTC Motors" should appear in the list of blocks to import. Select "FTC Motors" in that list.
  11. Change the drop-down selection next to "Add Blocks to Palette:" from Advanced to Action. Click the Import button.
  12. You may see a series of eight dialog boxes pop up with a message like this: "The file named C:\Program Files\...\Controller Num.png already exists at the location specified. Overwrite existing file?" If you do, click Cancel on each dialog box.
