Description

This document contains the LabVIEW 8.6f1 Run-Time Engine patch. We recommend using this Run-Time Engine if either one of the following two issues occur in a deployed system. The patch is optional otherwise and you can continue using the LabVIEW 8.6 Run-Time Engine.

The LabVIEW 8.6f1 Run-Time Engine patch resolves two distinct issues:
  1. Fixed an issue where LabVIEW 8.6 incorrectly displays certain fonts, such as Russian, Hebrew, Arabic, and so on. This affects all languages that do not use the Windows 1252 codepage or an IME for input. Text in these languages displays correctly in previous versions of LabVIEW. However, in LabVIEW 8.6, the text either displays incorrectly or with an error about Unicode characters. VIs developed in previous versions of LabVIEW work correctly after you upgrade to LabVIEW 8.6 unless you enter new text. Refer to KB 4P8ERA3Y: Russian/Hebrew/Arabic Fonts Displayed Improperly in LabVIEW 8.6 for more information about this issue. This issue was tracked through NI bug IDs 123758 and 124752.

  2. Fixed an issue where the NI TestStand Sequence Editor slows down during certain LabVIEW steps. NI TestStand uses a function to get the checksum of the connector pane of a VI without loading the VI to check whether the prototype of the VI has changed. LabVIEW 8.6 calls this function more slowly than LabVIEW 8.5, especially when you wire an I/O control to the connector pane. This issue was tracked through NI bug ID 124319.

If you are interested in patching the LabVIEW Development System, please look at the readme found at the LabVIEW 8.6f1 patch page

This Run-Time Engine must be installed on any Windows system where you plan to run executables that you build with the LabVIEW Application Builder. Version 8.6f1 of the Run-Time Engine may be used only to run executables that were built with LabVIEW 8.6 (includes LabVIEW 8.6f1).

Additionally, the Run-Time Engine allows your browser to display VIs that are embedded in Web pages. If you were attempting to view a VI through a browser and you were directed to this site by your Web browser, the VI will display correctly after you install either Run-Time Engine.

LabVIEW 8.6 Run-Time Engine (Standard) gives full support for executables. This version will support all executables built with LabVIEW as well as allow viewing of Remote Front Panels in web browsers. It includes support for DataSocket, Variable Engine and NI-USI. This version can be deployed using an installer created with Application Builder. Download LVRTE86f1std.exe to install this version.

Older versions of Run-Time Engine
To run applications built with an older versions of LabVIEW you will need the corresponding run-time engine installed. You can have multiple run-time engines installed at the same time. See the All Versions list of Run-Time Engines to download an older run-time engine version.

Instructions d'installation

Run LVRTE86f1std.exe to install the LabVIEW 8.6 Run-Time Engine.

NOTE: The installation files for the runtime engine are automatically extracted to a directory on disk. The installer does not remove the files after installing, if you want to remove these files from disk, be sure to note their location during the unzipping process.
