National Instruments identified an issue that causes some NI WLS-9163 devices to experience poor wireless network performance under adverse RF environment conditions. The issue is resolved in firmware revision 2.0.0. Using an advanced adaptive interference immunity (ANI) control algorithm, NI WLS-9163 devices can now adjust wireless receiver and transmitter characteristics automatically in response to changing RF conditions. The result is significant improvement in wireless data throughput.

NI strongly recommends upgrading all NI WLS-9163 carriers to version 2.0.0.

For wireless data acquisition, NI still recommends using a clear IEEE 802.11 channel and proper error handling techniques.

Installation Instructions

Complete the following steps to install the firmware:

NOTE: NI recommends connecting to the carrier via an Ethernet cable for firmware updates.

1. Download and save the firmware file.
2. Open MAX, and navigate to My System » Devices and Interfaces » Network Devices.
3. Select your device.
4. Select Update Firmware, and browse to the location where you previously saved the firmware file.
5. Click Update. The update process may take several minutes. The NI WLS-9163 device reboots when finished.
