The Compatibility VIs replace certain Traditional NI-DAQ VI libraries with libraries that work with both Traditional NI-DAQ and NI-DAQmx. These VIs look identical to the existing Traditional NI-DAQ VIs and integrate seamlessly into existing applications. If your DAQ device is supported in Traditional NI-DAQ, the Traditional NI-DAQ Compatibility VIs do not alter your program. In such a case, your application continues to use the Traditional NI-DAQ driver. If your DAQ device is supported only by NI-DAQmx, the VIs are redirected to use NI-DAQmx to communicate with and control your device. This redirection happens at the lowest subVI level. Therefore, you do not have to make any changes to your program. However, you do have to specifically configure your NI-DAQ devices in the Measurement and Application Explorer to be recognized by the Compatibility VIs. The installer creates a backup folder of the original NI-DAQ libraries it overwrites and stores them in the vi.lib/Daq/Compatibility VIs Backup Files directory. It renames the backups with a numbered .bak extension. The installer also installs a copy of the CompatibilityVIs.chm Help file into this backup folder and a link to it to the National Instruments\NI-DAQ Start Menu directory.
